ASSISTANT RESTAURANT MANAGER

The Stand Vegan Café is a local, woman-owned restaurant, located in downtown Fairfield.  Since we opened two-and-a-half years ago, we have grown tremendously.  Now, we are looking for an experience Manager to take the reins in the Front of House and help us get to our next phase of growth and achievement.  This position is hands-on, as well as managerial, and reports directly to the Head Chef-Owner.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure food safety procedures are followed

  • Place orders with distributors, inventory management

  • Train and mentor FOH staff

  • Closing and/or opening duties

  • Work with a team in a collaborative environment

  • Expedite orders and keeping them moving

  • Guest service, guest service, guest service

  • Hands-on daily tasks

 

Additionally, our Manager will partner with the Head Chef-Owner to transition the café from counter-service to full table-service, as well as instituting necessary improvements to efficiency, quality assurance, and cost control measures.  Opportunities also exist to assist in expanding into other outlets or locations.

Qualifications needed:

  • Applicable management experience in fast-paced café or restaurant environment

  • Superior guest service knowledge, experience, and capabilities

  • Quick and creative problem-solving skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Reliable

  • Able to take independent initiative, yet team-oriented

  • Physical agility – being able to move quickly when we’re busy

  • Being Vegan is a huge plus, as well as an ability to communicate with guests regarding health and wellness.

The schedule will likely be a mix of weekdays and weekends, and a mix of morning and afternoon/early evening shifts. Hours will be approximately 40 hours per week, though some weeks may require a little additional face time.  Although we keep the schedule as consistent as possible, some flexibility is required so that we may all take time off.  Weekends are required.  We are closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Expected annual compensation is approximately $45,000 to $55,000.  Position includes paid time off and merit-based bonuses.

LINE COOK,  F/T OR P/T

We are looking for an experienced, professional Line Cook, ideally three 8-hour shifts per week, but full-time will also be considered. This position is for someone who already has substantial culinary vocabulary and skills.

The Stand is a really fun place to work, where all staff is valued and makes a meaningful contribution to our mission.  We do not exploit our employees. Rather, we aim to be a refreshing change for the restaurant industry.  Staff can expect to work hard – but also to be appreciated, compensated, and encouraged.  We are a team, and we truly enjoy our work and each other. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Prep ingredients to be used later in dishes

  • Prepare and plate items for guests a la minute

  • Contribute to cleaning up and washing dishes throughout the day, and ensure health department codes are met or exceeded

  • Closing and/or opening duties

  • Work with team of Cooks and Chefs, as well as Front of House Staff, in a collaborative environment

  • Getting creative in the kitchen

Skills and Requirements Needed:

  • Culinary vocabulary, proper cook tech, and knife skills

  • Culinary degree or certificate desired; commensurate experience without degree may be considered for exceptional candidate

  • Fantastic can-do attitude, outstanding cooperation

  • Ability to communicate effectively

  • Comfort in a fast-paced environment

Work schedule is likely to be a combination of weekends and weekdays.  The schedule is as consistent as possible and will either be mostly opening or mostly closing shifts, though some flexibility is required in order to allow all staff to take time off. Employees tend to have a fairly regular schedule, but it is always open to change.

Wages will depend on the candidate's experience. Expectation for total compensation should be somewhere between $16 and $20 per hour, plus possible annual bonus.

SERVER/BARISTA

We are looking for part-time staff for our Front of House, ideally three 8-hour shifts per week, though full-time will be considered.

This is a "people person" position. The most important quality is friendly professionalism. This is also a physically and mentally agile position. In other words, when it's busy we move and think FAST.  And, then when there’s down-time, we can chat while we catch up on side-work.

Qualifications needed:

  • Serving or barista experience in fast-paced environment

  • Quick and creative problem-solving skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Reliable

  • Able to take independent initiative, yet team-oriented

  • Physical agility – being able to move quickly when we’re busy

  • Being Vegan is a huge plus, as well as an ability to communicate with guests regarding health and wellness.
